Driving Lessons Stanmore: For Beginners and Returning Drivers

Stanmore’s quiet, leafy streets make it a genuinely good place to start learning to drive, and Julia from Auto Julia’s Driving School has been teaching learners exactly like this — nervous, brand new, or returning after years away — for more than 23 years. She’s fully RMS accredited, calm and unhurried in style, and takes every lesson herself, so you’re never handed off to someone new partway through your lessons.

Quiet Streets First, Busier Roads When You’re Ready

Stanmore’s federation homes and low-traffic side streets are ideal for the very first lessons — practising car control, pulling in and out of the kerb, and building basic awareness without the pressure of heavy traffic. As your confidence grows, Julia moves you toward busier roads like Parramatta Road and Old Canterbury Road, where lane changing, merging and managing traffic lights become the focus. It’s a gentle, logical progression rather than being thrown into busy traffic in your second lesson.

A Defined Course, or Lessons Built Around You

Julia’s ten-lesson course takes you step by step from car control through roundabouts, hazard awareness, lane changes, freeway driving and finally test preparation, so you know from day one what each lesson will cover. If you already know exactly what you need to work on, whether that’s a single skill or a refresher after a long break, lessons can be tailored instead. Every lesson comes with free written notes, diagrams and mini video demonstrations to reinforce what you covered, plus a quick progress review at the start and end and a written report so you can track your own improvement over time.

  • Car control and kerb work on Stanmore’s quieter streets
  • Lane changing and merging onto Parramatta Road
  • Roundabouts and defensive driving
  • Refresher lessons for returning or mature-age drivers
  • Driving test preparation and mock test routes

A Good Fit for Families and Returning Drivers

Julia works with university and high school students, mature-age learners, people with autism, Asperger’s, ADHD and learning difficulties, and those with a history of road trauma or PTSD, as well as straightforward refresher lessons and overseas licence conversions. She’s a registered NDIS provider, and can arrange medical, OT and workplace driver training on request. If you’ve tried to learn before and it didn’t go well, that’s exactly the situation Julia is used to turning around.
